2009
redesign, layout, web, local matters
This redesign was done in 2009, as part of work on Destination Search 4.1. Destination Search is two things. It's an example Yellow Page Search site. It's also the platform that we built client sites on.
On our client sites, often the business details pages would look mostly empty. The information about a business, was getting spread out accross several pages.
This problem has two main causes: using tabs to to divide the innformation into multiple pages, and that fact that some businesses have a lot of data, and some very little.
A pattern was developing: each site we'd roll out, the client would want to use tabs. And during design, we'd focus too much on listings with a lot of data. Even when we'd predict the outcome, we couldn't prevent it.
Once we were able to diagnose the problem, a solution emerged. Instead of organizing the data on several tabs, we'd organize it into horizontal stacks. The result looks and works better.
