Map Search

2007

design, interaction, web, local matters

This design is from from 2007. We added map based search to a our client's site goudengids.nl, a yellow page site in the Netherlands.

We developed this feature in collaboration with our client Truvo, for their Dutch yellow page site, goudengids.nl. (The site has since been acquired, but oddly enough it was acquired by another client of ours. Small world.)

We call the feature map search. Like most yellow page sites, you enter your search terms and a location. However, instead of showing a list of results, the application plots the location on the map, and shows all the business in the area that match your search.

And as you pan and zoom the map, your search updates. In effect you are using the map to filter your search. Zoom out to search a wider area. Zoom in to narrow your search.

The feature is useful when you are looking for something in a specific part of town. When you want to find the bank closest to your office. Or you want to find a hotel near the convention center.
